Reflective log week 8

I didn't heart from the bookstores I emailed, asking if they'd agree for an interview.

This week I approached two people who work with Netherland Dwarf rabbits and asked them if they'd do an interview with me. They both agreed but I managed to interview only one of them (I called them on Facebook) and I haven't heard from the other one in days.

My third and last backup plan is a feature about how Falmouth students are dealing with the quarantine and social distancing. I haven't talked to any yet because I've decided to wait just a bit more in case I hear from the bunny breeder. 

My problem with the new feature idea is that I've no idea what kind of pictures I should use but I will ask the people I interview to take some for me which would be their interpretation of the situation.

One positive this week was that Melissa and I finally recorded the podcast, I wrote the intro for it and we have an image. Now she just needs to edit it.

The plan for next week is to find a way to do my feature and start working on my the rest of the assessment.

Reflective log week 7

During the reading week, I planned two podcast ideas, recorded the interviews for them and interviewed John Jarrold who is a literary agent. I did reach out to somebody else before him but she didn't reply, however, John Jarrold has represented many big names in the fantasy genre and he has also been an editor for many other big fantasy names so I'm glad I interviewed him. I asked him for a picture because the interview was over the phone.

The final idea for the podcast is to do it about not finishing books and why some people feel better about putting down their books than others.

Reflective log week 6

I asked C. G. Drews if I could interview her but unfortunately, she said she was busy with her writing. My backup plan is to approach a few literary agents during the reading week and hopefully, one of them will reply.

For my feature, I decided to either interview a woman in Truro who is breeding bunnies as a hobby or interview the people at the used bookshop in Falmouth. I'm not sure about the images just yet. The bunny idea would be easier to get photographs for because I could take pictures of the bunnies themselves but for the bookshop, I'm worried the lady wouldn't allow me to take a picture of her behind her desk.

Reflective log weeks 1 - 5

For a long time, I struggled with coming up with ideas and would constantly change them. I had a few ideas in the beginning that, I thought, were good, however, it tuned out they have to be either local or just suitable for Truthfal. I had to change a few of them and I knew what I wanted to do only for the podcast and the advice piece.

During those first few weeks, I didn't work on anything, I was trying to figure out what to do for the feature and live event while focusing on my creative writing because I needed to have my first draft finished by the end of March.

I planned to interview C. G. Drews, the author of A thousand perfect notes and The boy who steals houses because I've spoken to her on a few occasions and she's made it clear she accepts interview requests and for the podcast, Melissa and I were going to talk about K-pop.
